The following section lists children's books we find are helpful in getting children to express their feelings and understanding about various topics.

 

Separation

"Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell
Three little owls worry about whether or not their mother will return.


"Mama Always Comes Home" by Karma Wilson
A gentle story about separating and reuniting.

 


New Baby

"Peter's Chair" by Jack Ezra Keats
Peter helps his father paint his old chair as a welcome to his new baby sister.

Food

"Pretend Soup and Other and Other Real Recipes: A Cookbook for Preschoolers and Up" by Mollie Katzen

Healthy recipes accompanied by both written and illustrated instructions.


"How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?" by Jane Yolen
Dinosaur (and people, too!) dining do's and don'ts.

 

Tantrums

"Leonardo the Terrible Monster" by Mo Willems
A very accurate portrayal of a toddler tantrum told with humor through the eyes of Leonardo the monster.

 

Toilet Learning

"Everyone Poops" by Taro Gomi
A fun book for toddlers about our bodily functions.


"Once Upon a Potty" by Alona Frankel
A classic introduction to using the potty.


Kindergarten

"Kindergarten Rocks!" by Katie Davis
An older sister helps her pre-K brother see how great kindergarten is.


"The Night Before Kindergarten" by Natasha Wing
A fun story about all the things you need to do to prepare for kindergarten.
